The Bharkor Market (Bharkor Street), Chinese: 八角街, Pinyin: Bajiao Jie

Apparently the best introduction to Tibet is taking a stroll round the Barkhor market, and as it didn't sound too strenuous we thought we'd give it a go. The Barkhor circuit is the kora circumambulating the holiest building in Tibet - the Jokhang temple. Theres so many religious / sacred things that you walk everywhere clockwise! I instantly fell in love with the Barkhor, its impossible to resist the charm of the hustle and bustle, pilgrims prostrating and praying and street vendors selling colourful goods shouting 'lookie lookie!'. Its a shopoholics dream, lined along both sides of the route are countless stalls and stores selling prayer flags, scarves, prayer wheels, 'turquoise' and 'coral' jewelry (only a handful of places had genuine ones) and anything traditionally Tibetan.
